FC Barcelona ចុះហត្ថលេខាលើកីឡាករថ្មី។

FC Barcelona have signed a new defender, yet a clause in his contract could come back to financially haunt them if they do not get their house in order and register it, according to ម៉ាក.

Barca concluded their 2022/2023 La Liga campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday yet already had their first title in four years wrapped up some weeks ago after defeating now-relegated cross city rivals Espanyol away in May.

Even before the maiden Spanish top flight crown under head coach Xavi Hernandez had been sealed, however, there had already been several reports about the club looking to capture reinforcements for next season.

Given the Catalans’ precarious economic reality, they are often on the look out for free agents and were most commonly linked to two.

The first is Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan, who before the weekend កីឡា reported as being convinced by Barca to turn down an extension with the Premier

League giants and sign a three-year deal at Camp Nou.

The other is Athletic Club defender Inigo Martinez. According to ម៉ាក, he has already put pen to paper with the Blaugrana on a two-term agreement prior to being released from his current contract on June 30.

Martinez’s contract does come with a caveat that could come back to haunt Barca, however.

The club is currently trying to convince La Liga they can sign new players such as Martinez and Lionel Messi through a viability plan, and at a time when the league’s president Javier Tebas has publicly warned that €200 million ($214 million) must be shaved from the wage bill to navigate Financial Fair Play.

Barca also want to register the new, already-finalized contracts of players such as Gavi and Ronald Araujo after thus far failing to do so.

If they also hit a brick wall with Martinez in this respect, the player will have to be financially compensated and would presumably be able to move on in a potential development that could be harmful.

If his transfer does go through, however, Martinez will provide positional rivalry to the likes of Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo while his arrival could force the exit of Eric Garcia.
