Friday is here at last, and we’re very nearly at the end of July. In fact, come next Monday, as we shuffle our way back to the daily grind, it’ll be August 1st.

July, of course, is named after the first Roman dictator, Julius Caesar. After his death, his birth month Quintilis was renamed in his honor. The Senate may not have loved him—assassinating him in cold blood and all that—but his legacy lives on every summer and has for thousands of years. Not many mortals ever attain such legendary status.

August was named after his heir and successor, Augustus Caesar, the first Emperor of Rome. The Emperor chose the month to be named after him (unlike the posthumous renaming of July) and chose that particular month because it was the anniversary of many of his great victories, including the conquest of Egypt.

August was originally named Sextilis. Quintilis essentially meant fifth month, and Sextilis meant sixth month. Originally, the Roman calendar only had 10 months, but this was changed in about 700 BC when King Numa Pompilius added January and February to the calendar ahead of March. August only had 29 days originally, but was given two more by Julius Caesar when he created the Julian Calendar.

All of which is absolutely fascinating trivia, right? But we’re here for Wordle, so let’s do that now!

Beware the Ides of March, but also beware of spoilers which are just ahead!

The hint: How you might feel when you don’t get the correct Wordle answer.

ហើយចម្លើយគឺ។ . . .

I got quite lucky with my opening guess which was absolutely better than ជណ្តើរ this time. Only 17 solutions remained after ហាង according to Wordle Bot.

លា narrowed that down to just two. And here is where my luck ran out. I simply thought of the word មិនបានកំណត់ មុន ខកចិត្ត and was feeling the latter when that ‘N’ came up grey and I knew, then and there, what the answer had to be.

តោះ! This was another kind of tricky word (most words that start with ‘U’ seem kind of challenging) which is in keeping with almost all of July’s Wordles. Fun times!

Have a great weekend, dearest Wordlers! May the Force of others be with you!
