The first weekend of June is here and I’m taking my kids to a fun little music festival today. Biking, beer, live music, good food. Should be a lively good time.

It’s stuff like this that I miss when summer ends and we all retreat indoors.

But there’s a catch. This is also fire season. Sometimes, very wet winters can be a curse in disguise. If things heat up and dry out, there’s just more tinder to burn through when the wildfires come. I’m reminded of this smokey reality as I type. They’re doing controlled burns and it’s smokey everywhere. I’m not sure how long I’ll make it at an outdoor festival with this much smoke in the air!

Pray for rain.

Wordle Bot

ទូក seemed like a good word with a lot of common letters, but it ended up being another opening dud. 357 words remained, and my chances of a quick win sailed off into the sunset. Speaking of sails, ខ្យល់ did a lovely job blowing the wind back into mine. Only 10 words remained after guess #2.

Alas, it was obvious that I had too many to pick from, so I chose a word that would eliminate as many remaining words as possible. ចំហៀង បានសំលាប់ fanny និង រាត្រី but more importantly, it left me with a green ‘N’ and just one possible remaining choice: ថែទាំក្មេង សម្រាប់ការឈ្នះ!

Well this could have been worse, but it could have been better also. I get 0 points for solving in four guesses and -1 for losing to Wordle Bot for a grand total of -1. Alas!

The word “nanny” has an interesting etymology that traces back to the 18th century. Its origin can be found in the word “nanny goat,” which referred to a female goat. The term “nanny” was eventually extended to describe a female domestic servant who took care of children.

The word “nanny” itself is derived from the nickname for the given name “Ann.” During the 18th century, “Ann” was a common name for women, and the term “nanny” was used to refer to a nursemaid or a female caregiver who attended to children. The association with goats likely came about due to the similarities in caring for young goats and young children, as both require nurturing and attention.

Over time, the term “nanny” became more widely used to describe any woman hired to look after and care for children. It has since become a common term for a female caregiver, especially one employed by a family to provide child care services.

It’s worth noting that in some regions, such as the United States, the term “nanny” is often used specifically to refer to a professional child caregiver who works in a family’s home. In other regions, like the United Kingdom, “nanny” can also be used more broadly to refer to any type of child caregiver, including those who work in daycare centers or schools.
